What is Menopause?

In this article, I would like to describe what is menopause, its symptoms & its Risks.

Menopause is one stage in a women’s life same as her Menarche( when her period starts) same as Pregnancy ( when she gives birth to a child. Menopause is the phase in a women’s life when she had missed her periods for the last 12 months. There are lots of hormonal changes in her body which creates some symptoms

Menopause is a term used to indicate the end of the period of possible sexual reproduction in women.

Menopause means ‘Meno’ ‘Pause’. During this time her menstrual cycle stops and also her reproductive cycle stops here. She can no more give birth to a child after this phase. Her ovaries start producing less Estrogen hormone which is very much needed for her reproductive cycle and also for her health. This hormonal imbalance may cause short-term symptoms and long-term symptoms.

Symptoms:

Short term Symptoms:
Symptoms may vary from one woman to another.
• Weight gain
• hot flushes& night sweats
• depression or stress
• tiredness
• loss of libido
• loss of concentration
• crying spells
• mood swings
• urinary problems
• vaginal dryness

Long term Health risks:

Women have to be alert during her Menopause ,she should take care of her Diet ,her Exercise routine and her health. If she is not alert long term health risks develops.

Due to deficiency of estrogen hormone , many health risks occurs. Before Menopause this hormone helps to protect her from the diseases ,but after this fall of estrogen hormone this protection is lost.

Health Risks:

She can have health risks as
• Osteoporosis
• Alzheimer’s disease
• muscular degeneration
• Cholesterol levels
• cardiovascular disease

You can all reverse this problem by following good diet and include any physical activities in her routine.
This period can be viewed as a normal stage in a women ‘s life . How ever the members of her family should understand her and support her emotionally. Women need lots of emotional support & care during this phase.
